*** Almost Christmas ***

December 24th was met with mixed weather. It was cold with a north breeze. Unfortunately, Vero had to work at the restaurant so it was a Dad and Benjamin day, which is always a treat.
We were invited to spend time with Jorge, Venus and their kids, which made the time warm and inviting. Benjamin always loves to play at their house.

Despite the weather, we decided to take the kids down to Sugarhouse Park to feed the birds at the pond. The kids loved running down the large hill on the way. The warmer weather and rain from a few days earlier had reduced a hillside of snowmen to only a speckled array of snow clumps. Benjamin liked stomping around on them with his snow boots.

When we arrived at the pond, it was alive with the cry of seagulls, the honks of geese, quacks from ducks and coos from the pidgeons. Venus brought a large bag of bread for all the kids (young and old) to toss to the birds. It was an instant hit as the birds swarmed towards us. Benjamin wasn't sure if the wanted to try feeding the geese from his hands like dad did. He was afraid they would eat his fingers.

Did that duck just say "Aflac"??
After spending a good portion of the afternoon at Jorge and Venus' place, we went home so Benjamin could take a nap and rest.
We were invited to visit with more friends in the evening. By this time, Vero had finished her shift at the restaurant and was able to meet us.

A warm and welcoming sight
Christie cooked up mussels for us as an appetizer. Personally, I hadn't tried them until this night. They were salty and tasted good with the wine. Vero, on the other hand, loves them and hadn't eaten any in several years. She simply loves seafood and could live on it alone. There were also some exotic cheeses, sour dough bread and sausages for all to snack on...yummy!

For dessert, Jorge prepared these incredible crepes, which I don't even know the name of. They were so delicious that I asked for seconds!

The secret, torch the liquor you just poured over it...mmmm
Benjamin had a great time playing with the other kids. Here, he is being given the stamp of approval that allows him access into the bedroom to play.

December 24th was a wonderful day for all of us. We went to bed happy, tired and full of great food.
