*** Hangin' at the Coffee Shop ***

Before Benjamin came along, we would often go to various coffee shops and stay until they closed late in the night (or early in the morning, depending on how you look at it.)

I was in grad school and would study until I couldn't keep my eyes open anymore.

One coffee shop that I often studied at was Sugar House Coffee located in Sugar House...wonder how they came up with that name?

Once it was located across the street from Barnes & Noble on the corner of 2100 South and 1100 East. Then a developer purchased the entire block and demolished the buildings that housed a lot of great shops. It was sad, then to add insult to injury, the developer decided not to continue with the construction of a new building that was to offer the same amenities as before. The result was an empty lot with weeds growing behind a chain link fence.

Fortunately, Sugar House Coffee found a place and moved only a block west. Another great benefit is that there is more room and free wifi.

At various times, bands will practice. In this case, an Irish band (unfortunately not U2) was practicing. Benjamin was totally into what was going on. From the 2nd floor, we could see the band performing great Irish songs.

Here Benjamin is leaning against the rail looking towards the 1st floor. Of course, mom is holding him just in case he decides that he wants to climb higher. Behind him on the wall is a mural that captures what Sugar House looked like before the developer came in and wiped out most of the small shops that made Sugar House a quaint part of Salt Lake City.

Mom and Benjamin went downstairs to get something to drink. Benjamin was interested but shy to approach the musicians. He has grown to love music in most any form.
