*** 8th Annual Chalk Festival ***

The Chalk Festival is a large draw for people of all ages as artists express themselves in the most temporary and creative way. Forecasted rain is a big damper and threat, but fortunately this year, we didn't have to endure any as the weather cooperated perfectly.

The purpose of the Chalk Festival is to raise awareness of how the public can help the Utah Foster Care Foundation and the 2,600 children who live in Foster Care in Utah.

When we arrived at the Gateway Plaza, it was alive with people who came to admire the creativity and ability of chalk artists. There were a LOT of pieces to admire for the whole stretch of the street that cuts through the center of the Gateway. I've only shown a few of my favorites, not in any particular order.

This is looking to the South from the pedestrian bridge.

This is looking to the North.

Of course, my very favorite is Mom and Benjamin, as they are looking at what is created on the ground. The pieces were flipped in an alternating fashion so that crowds could look at some going one direction, then others as they returned on the other side.

This was one of those 3D drawings, where you had to stand at the right position to see the effect. Pretty cool huh?

I was very impressed with the work these guys were doing on this. Napoleon would be proud!

Benjamin recently created an octupus at his daycare from a paper plate and strips of paper. However, he decided that it was a spider instead. I really liked the color combination in this.

Speaking of colors, this was a real study in colors. I was simply amazed at how the artist was able to do this.

This reminded me of when Benjamin used to hold my finger when he was learning how to walk. That seemed like a very long time ago, but wasn't. Time passes so quickly anymore.

I found this to be intersting, it was titled "Vote Now!" I felt it made a real political statement.
Overall, Benjamin found the pictures to be fun and interesting. It is difficult to keep the attention of a 2-year-old on pictures, especially when there are so many people walking around and other kids to distract him. This is an event that we hope to catch every year.
